Hello folks, if you have a Windows 10 PC, then you’re using Realtek audio. Except you make use of a sound card or your sound runs through HDMI. The Realtek HD Audio Codec driver is mostly what’s behind all the sound your PC makes.
Also, there are so many different things that can break your audio drivers. If this happens, the first thing to do is to go to your device manager. Then try and see if you can get a fresh driver via Windows Update.
To carry this out on Windows 10, right-click the Start Menu and go to Device Manager. When you’re there, move down to “Sound, video and game controllers,” and find the device that needs to be updated. Hence, right-click it and choose “update driver.”
Windows will mostly be able to locate and install the correct driver without much input from you. But sometimes you’ll have to tackle it yourself. It’s a pretty painless process, and you should be able to get through it in a manner of minutes.
Here’s how to go about it.
Uninstall your current audio drivers
Before you try to reinstall your Realtek HD Audio Codec driver, you have to uninstall all of your existing audio drivers. To make this possible, move to the Device Manager by right-clicking the start button.
Then, scroll down to “Sound, video and game controllers” and locate “Realtek High Definition Audio”. After that, go ahead and right-click it and choose “Uninstall device”. It’ll come up with a dialogue box. Ensure you have the box “Delete the driver software for this device” selected and then click OK.
Furthermore, just follow the directions on screen until the device has been uninstalled. After that’s done, at the top of the device manager window, select “view” then scroll down to “show hidden devices” and click on it. This is to make sure you don’t have duplicate drivers. Restart your computer before moving on to the next step.
Download the Realtek HD Audio Codec driver
Next step is to download the driver. Visit Realtek’s website and locate the downloads section. A prompt that makes sure you understand that some motherboards might not use these drivers will be presented. There’s a huge chance that these drivers will work for you. So, go ahead and select “accept” and move on to the main downloads page.
Then, locate your operating system and click the “Global” link that corresponds to it.
Install the driver
After you’ve downloaded the software, locate it in your downloads folder and run it. After access for the program to run has been granted, it’ll present a big blue window. Just allow the installer to do its magic. Select “next” on every of the screen. Be patient, it installs in no time.
After the installer is done, it’ll ask you to restart your PC. Ensure you do, otherwise, the driver won’t finish the installation.
Verify and finish
After you’ve restarted your computer, the driver should be installed. However, go back to Device Manager, and ensure that “Realtek High Definition Audio” appears under “Sound, video and game controllers”.
Once you’ve confirmed that the driver is there, look up a YouTube video or play any song to make sure that the driver is functioning properly.
